Perhaps this is merely a repeat of history.
As Douglas Murray writes in “The Strange Death of Europe” society is becoming more secular with disastrous consequences.There are not enough adherents to Abraham’s derech with a consequent lack of unity.
I am, however, always hopeful that we will see better times as more people begin to listen to all the messages.

He speaks to us all the time. The problem is most dont hear.
In the 60’s we had promiscuity & the result was an increase in SRD’s. That didn’t help so then HIV/Aids.
We are still not listening so now a pandemic, floods & fire & climate change.
Time to sit up & listen.
