I once walked with Rav Zvi Yehudah Kook z”l from his home to the yeshivah and asked him why his father z”l had said that American Jews are like a tinukh she-nishba, a “captured infant” exempt from halakhah because they know nothing. In 1982 when Rabbi Lichtenstein wrote that he did not share the glee of others vis a vis the future demise the “competition” he was looking at the void it would create. Chabad, at it’s essence, is dedicated to filling that void, and for some time now they have been literally running that “competition” off the court.
If Reb Aharon were still with us, I wonder how he would view this amazing turn of events?
