    Dr. Goodman,

Thank you for sharing these amazing stories about finding purpose in life and strenghtening personal identity through volunteering and social participation.

We were very impressed to learn that cognitive and emotional wellbeing is enhanced by involvement in community activities.

The classic view is that we should invest only in personal improvement.

But in the book “The Duties of the Heart”, Section “The Love of God”, it is written that the merit of rectifying oneself cannot event compare to the merit of rectifying others.

Rabbi Israel of Salant, the founder of the ethical Mussar movement, taught that a segula to nullify bad decrees is to be among the individuals that give merit to the community.

Volunteering gives meaning and purpose to life.

    Thank you!

I know Mr.E very well. He is kind, selfless ….a great humanitarian.

His daily life is difficult but in spite of negatives, he turned a great need into such a wonderful project. How lucky these children were that he came into their lives. His quiet patience would encourage any child.

Furthermore he is less than boastful. AND he kept this all to himself. I have always admired Mr.E
