Beautiful and balanced account of the life of a Gabbai. As to correcting Ba’alei Korei we were leining the Tochachah in our Shul in Golders Green and a word was pronounced incorrectly — immediately our eldest ba’al korei sitting alongside the bimah called out the correction — but in a whisper.

As a Gabai I try correct the bal koreh silently so that he doesn’t lose focus

Sums it all up very well. You have to love it to do it with the care and passion it requires. It is easier if you are in a shul that has a good team of experienced people to support the gabbayim. And it’snot just about shabbat. The shul operates 365 days a year, so 3 or 5 services a day have to be managed and dont forget selichot and chol hamoed and tisha b’av etc etc etc. Edgware United Synagogue. England.
