My father ז”ל, learned b’chavrusa with Rav Gettinger, in Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin from 1943-1945.
When I was a child of around 7 or 8, the Rov ז”ל asked my father to stop into the Young Israel on the way home from another shul (every 2 weeks or so) so that I could lead the An’im zemiros. It seems that very few children were fluent enough in Hebrew in that period (early 50’s).
