Dr. Yaffa Eliach, pioneering Holocaust scholar, dies at age 79

Dr. Yaffa Eliach, who passed away on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016 at the age of 79, was a prominent and pioneering scholar of the Holocaust. She launched the first Center for Holocaust Studies Documentation & Research in the USA and introduced Holocaust Studies on the American campus. Back in 1993, she wrote an article about the need to focus on “living, creative Judaism” while commemorating the Holocaust for Jewish Action. While our community certainly has seen much progress in this area since the article first appeared, many of Dr. Eliach’s points are still timely and relevant.
